About Futsal

Futsal is a ball sport played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to football’s five-a-side. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Futsal has similarities to rugby league as it is played between two teams of five players each, but the distance between the teams is a fraction of the distance in rugby league, thus allowing for a greater interchange of the ball and tactical change of position between players. The main differences are that the kicking zone is much wider and players use their feet rather than their hands for goal scoring. A bonus point system is used, which counts up to 10 points for a team to be considered as winning, 9 points for being victorious, or 8 points for achieving an equal draw. Teams can only score from a goal inside the goal area. Futsal has similar rules to association football (soccer) but with minor differences: like association football, Futsal uses three attacking players and three defenders in each team. Futsal is played in indoor and outdoor variants, while outdoor Futsal is more popular in Europe.

Players are allowed to use a football as a battering ram, to control the ball, or as a set piece goal. A goalkeeper is only allowed to use his hands and feet to catch or stop the ball.

There are nine international governing bodies which oversee futsal, including the English Football Association, Australian Futsal Soccer Association, Futsal Wales, South American Futsal Confederation (Conmebol) and World Futsal Confederation (FIFA). In the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland the sport is controlled by the Futsal Northern Ireland Association (FNIA).

Futsal is a sport where there are five players on each team on a field marked by five-yard-long “futsal” goals (not soccer goals) and a larger 10-yard-long field (divided into 25-yard-long futsal zones). Futsal, like its “conventional” cousin football, is a 5-on-5 game.

The FIH first introduced the Olympic event in 2004 at the Athens Games, as a demonstration sport. Four years later, it was approved as a full-fledged Olympic sport, with the Futsal World Championship, to be held every four years.

Futsal (also known as fútsal or footsal) is a ball sport played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to football’s five-a-side. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Futsal is one of the most popular variants of indoor football. There are two major indoor competitions played worldwide. The Futsal World Cup is one of the most significant competitions in the sport, along with the Futsal Club World Cup.

The five-a-side is more complicated and the ball is smaller than futsal. The offensive team begins on the half-way line and must cross the halfway line to their opponent’s goal area; this is a horizontal line. this area is also known as the opposition’s “D” and consists of three lines.; this area is also known as the opposition’s “D” and consists of three lines.

Usually, a futsal team comprises five players. Three players are in the centre, who are usually the goalkeepers, one player is the player in the opposing team who is the leader and the other two players form a group in the opposing team’s “D”. The ball is only in play when it is in the possession of the central players, so the offence is often best executed with the central player constantly switching the ball from foot to foot.
